For as long as I can remember, I have had the desire to create artistically.  Art was always my favorite subject in school, and I've been involved in arts and crafts throughout my life.  I've done a lot of embroidery and sewing along the way.   Starting a doll collection in the 1980's inspired me to try making my own porcelain dolls.  The dolls were completely handmade by me - this involved pouring liquid porcelain into the doll molds, tedious sanding of the green ware, painting, and firing many times in two kilns I had.  After the eyes were set and the dolls assembled, I sewed all my own doll clothes!  It was a tremendous amount of work but very rewarding.  My business name was "Dolls by Sherry" and I displayed and sold my dolls throughout Florida for ten years.

During my doll years, I started collecting artist bears and Steiff.  After crossing over to the bear world, I've found that creating bears is even more rewarding and much more fun!  I've been making bears for over eight years now, and I'm proud to say my bears can be found in homes all over the world.   Designed and handmade by me from the finest quality German and English mohair, alpaca or plush, my bears are one-of-a-kind creations.  I love both the realistic and traditional-style bears.  Premium glass eyes are used or I custom paint my own.  Noses are carefully hand stitched in perle cotton, sometimes waxed, or I use glass noses or hand sculpt my own (also teeth, tongues, claws and paw pads)!  Bears are securely jointed with locknuts, bolts and hardboard discs, and firmly filled with polyfil, and safely encased polypellets and either steel or glass pellets for weight.  Seams are double-sewn for long-lasting quality.  I often enhance features by needle/scissors sculpting or airbrushing to add realism or give a vintage look.  My embroidered Sherr-Bear label is sewn in as a "tush" tag, and a signed and dated, laminated hangtag and birth certificate are included.  After my bears are born, I enjoy making them bear jewelry, or searching for vintage/antique accessories that add to their character.

I'm absolutely thrilled to have my realistic bear, Tok, nominated for a 2008 GOLDEN TEDDY AWARD, and one of my bears on the cover of TEDDY BEAR REVIEW Magazine (Feb. 2008 issue)!! I'm so pleased with the article they wrote on me and the bears and very honored to have been nominated for this prestigious award!!  A very special thank you to all the collectors and artists who have supported me.  I'm a member of TBAS (Teddy Bear Artisan Society), a group whose purpose is to recognize artists who work very hard to bring original, fresh and exciting new pieces to the teddy bear community,  Bear Artists Worldwide, and the Bear Directory.  I love creating bears and I'm sincerely grateful for your interest in my work!

I've lived in Florida since 1981, after moving down from Ohio.  I love it here in DeBary, a small city in central Florida - between Orlando and Daytona Beach.  I have a wonderful husband, daughter, son-in-law, two grandsons, and two boxers named Kaley and Cody!
